Update about gift registry

As you know we're registered at Sears for the wedding. We've just found out that the prices listed on the registry are likely to change as Sears is having several sales over the next few weeks. So the price you see might be reduced (especially on weekends)! One other thing, on the gift list it gives one of three categories for items: RET, CAT and both. Unfortunately you can only buy gifts listed as CAT or both when calling Sears as the RET (retail) gifts can only be purchased instore!

Gift list

We've been asked about our plans for a gift registry/gift list... As we are split across two continents, this could cause some chaos! We have two options:

Option 1:
We've registered at a department store in Canada called Sears where they will ship the gifts to our local store. So the website is: http://www.giftregistry.sears.ca/gift/egrW_main.jsp and our registry number is: 201007967771. We felt this would be easiest as people can see an updated list but... they don't allow you to buy directly online from the gift list (ignore the links from the list). To purchase, you have to call their freephone number (1-800 211-2111)... but it's not free to call from the UK! So we're setting up a calling card for UK guests to use if they want to buy us something from that list. (Also, might want to check on the exchange rate from pounds Sterling to Canadian dollars as it hasn't been that great recently).

Update: Phonecard for UK residents. Dial 0800-376-2366, enter the calling card number: 2036449358 press #, then enter the PIN number (found on the registry site), press #, then dial the gift registry number: 001-800-211-2111

Option 2:
We're going to be moving soon - could be within Canada, might be Europe, might be somewhere else in the world and so we'll be looking to set up home somewhere new...plus we'd also love to own a couple of kayaks for our summer adventures... I guess what we're saying is that we would also appreciate money in lieu of a traditional gift. If you'd like to go down this route then for UK residents, it's easiest for us if you write out a cheque in pounds Sterling (made payable to Dr Wendy Monk); for Canadian residents, we haven't set up a joint bank account as of yet so a cheque in dollars made payable to either Colin Curry or Dr Wendy Monk would be great.

Plans coming together

Well we're slowly getting there - thanks to everyone who has helped, both in the UK and Canada! Flights are booked, dresses ordered, suit purchased... just a few more little decisions to make :)

We've moved the website around a bit to make it easier to navigate - let us know if you have any questions!

Costs for on site accommodation and meals

We've been meaning to put this up online to help everyone make decisions about accommodation.

For onsite camping per night (including a hearty breakfast):
£20/adult
£10/child under 12
Free for children under 3

For onsite dorm accommodation per night (including a large breakfast):
£28/adult
£14/child under 12
Free for children under 3

There are lots of places to eat in the local area (particularly in Lyme Regis)! For those who are travelling down on the Friday evening, we will be making/cooking our own pizzas in their outdoor clay ovens with salads and dessert for £15/adult, £7.50/child under 12 (children under 3 are free).

If you plan on staying onsite or wish to have the pizza dinner on Friday evening, please send a cheque payable to Wendy Monk (to my parents' house: 49 Latimer, Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes, MK11 1HP) before the wedding (as Magdalen Farm will be charging us directly for all costs). Anyone travelling from Canada, we'll collect cash at the wedding.

Travelling from Canada to the UK - UPDATED!

UPDATE (6th Feb 2010): Prices for Air Transat flights have dropped this week

There are several airlines that fly from major Canadian cities to the UK. From the searching that we've done, Air Transat has by far the best round-trip price from Calgary to London:

http://www.airtransat.ca/en/Home.aspx - Note that Air Transat flies into Gatwick Airport

Other airlines you might want to check out:

Air Canada
Air France
British Airways
Northwest Airlines
United Airlines
Continental Airlines

There are a number of websites that allow you to search multiple airlines at once and many offer discounted tickets. These sites are worth checking, but there are many others:

expedia

travelocity
orbitz

We have a venue and date, now for the 'easy' part!

Hooray! After months of searching we've finally booked our wedding venue. The ceremony and reception will be held June 19th, 2010 at the Magdalen Project, a beautiful organic farm and education center nestled in the Axe River valley on the Dorset/Somerset border. To see the venue and learn more about what they do, you can visit their website:

You can see some more photos of the venue by viewing the slide show on the right.

Keep checking the blog as we hope to have more information about accommodation and transportation up shortly. Now, back to the planning!
